Arrival to Quito

Discovering one of the most beautiful countries in Latin America begins when you arrive at Quito International Airport. Upon arrival, one of our staff members will be waiting for you to drive you to your hotel, where you will have some time to unpack and prepare for your exciting journey.

Rose plantation B/L/D

Ecuador produces some of the best roses in the world – bright colors, unforgettable scents and unmatchable beauty characterizes Ecuadorian roses. On the second day of your tour around Ecuador, we will visit one of these rose plantations and learn more about the harvesting process. We will have lunch at one of the typical Andean haciendas and enjoy the local flavor highland cuisine. Our journey continues with a trip to the city of Otavalo, where we will spend the night.

Otavalo and Cotacochi Markets B/L

The day begins with a delicious breakfast, followed by a visit to one of the largest indigenous markets in Latin America – the Otavalo Market. A wide variety of handicrafts are brought to this market, ranging from musical instruments, colorful tapestries and the finest alpaca clothes. We will have lunch closeby and enjoy the unique and delectable food from northern Ecuador.

After lunch, we will visit Cuicocha Lake. This beautiful lake sits on top of the crater of an active volcano, and the two volcanic islets in the middle make it one of Ecuador’s most valuable natural treasures. After our visit to the lake, we will visit the town of Cotacachi, known for its tanneries. Cotacachi is the perfect place to find leather clothes, bags, and souvenirs. We will then drive back to Quito, where we will spend the night.

The Wonders of Quito B/L

The beautiful city of Quito is home of some of the most impressive and beautiful constructions of the colonial period. Declared a world heritage site, Quito will charm you with its history, traditions, and legends. We will start our day by exploring the main square, known as “Independence Square.” This is where the most important powers of the government were seated during colonial times, including the archbishop’s palace, the presidential palace and the Cathedral. As you explore, you will find that each one has a story to tell.

We will continue our tour at one of the most breathtaking architectural endeavors of the colonial times. The church of La Compania, built by the Jesuits, is perhaps the finest example of baroque style design and decor in Latin America, complete with carved gold-leaf altars, impressive paintings from the most famous painters of La Escuela Quiteña like Caspicara, and other impressive works of art that will dazzle you. La Compania, in all its gilded glory, is a masterpiece of colonial art.

Next, we will visit San Francisco Square, where the legend of Cantuña comes alive in the atrium of the church. We will finish this part of our tour with a panoramic view from the small hill of El Panecillo, from which point the “Winged Virgin” keeps watch over the city.

After lunch, we will visit the Middle of the World, the very same point designated by the French Geodesic mission of the 19th century as the place where the earth was divided into two hemispheres. We will then visit the Intinan Museum, where a collection of Ecuadorian history and culture offers an engaging way for visitors to experience this interesting geographic part of the world. This will be the end of our Quito tour.

Galapagos Islands Cruise

From days 5 to 10, you will enjoy the beauty and magic of the Galapagos Island. Literally born of fire, the Galapagos Islands are a natural paradise, with white sandy beaches, turquoise seas, and the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises you can imagine, all awaiting you in the Islands

In the morning of Day 5, our representative will drive you again to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. During your stay, you will be able to snorkel with a rainbow of tropical fish, white-tipped reef sharks, and even green sea turtles, gliding through these warm, placid waters.

During the land expeditions, you will be able to walk over lava fields surrounded by the curious marine iguanas, the only species in the world that is able to dive in order to feed on the algae that grows in the depths. You will also have time to relax on the white sandy beach alongside sea lions and look at their cubs joyfully playing in the sea. With a keen eye, you can wander at the gracious blue-footed boobies nesting just a few steps from you, and admire the beautiful albatrosses soaring above as they scope out their nesting sites on the islands, before they embark again in their everlasting journey over the Pacific seas.

This once in a lifetime experience truly will change the way you see the world. And you will enjoy this wonderful trip from the comfort and service that only the catamarans of Haugan Cruises can provide.

From Galapagos to Quito

Day 10 marks the end of your journey in the enchanted Galapagos Islands. On this day, you will fly back to the Quito airport, where one of our representatives will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel

Amazon Adventure

In the morning of your 11th day in Ecuador, one of our representatives will pick you up and drive you to the Quito airport for your flight to the city of Coca.

We will start our tour visiting the colossal Cotopaxi Volcano, an impressive snow-capped volcano that gives its name to Ecuador’s first national park. Here we will be able to see the Andean paramo, identified by small vegetation and with some luck some of the wildlife that dwells in the park, such as deer, rabbits and a wide variety of birds. We will have lunch and continue traveling down the Avenue of the Volcanoes, a term coined by Alexander Von Humboldt in the 19th century when he visited Ecuador and was astonished by the amazing number of mountains and volcanoes present in this part of the Andean mountain range.

From the Amazon Jungle to Quito

On your last day in the rainforest, you will take the canoe back to the Coca airport. The ride will last nearly 2 hours. Once in Coca, you will be transferred to the local airport for your flight to Quito. In Quito, you will be met by one of our representatives who will take you to your hotel to spend the night and reflect upon the thrilling journey you have just undertaken.

Depending on when your international flight is, we will arrange your pickup and transfer to the airport for your return flight back home, as you bid Ecuador a bittersweet, but memory-filled goodbye
