How The Galapagos Islands Improves Happiness

It’s International Happiness Day. A weird thing to be talking about considering the circumstances, but then, it almost seems like the most perfect thing to be talking about. After all, this is just a phase, and it will pass.

So, to lighten the mood, here are five ways that the Galapagos Islands improves happiness.

Visiting The Galapagos Islands Involves Travel

This sounds pretty obvious, but travel is proven to improve your health and wellbeing.

Travel opens your mind; it allows you to explore different cultures and societies. It gives you a new perspective and understanding. Think of all the delicious food you’ve tried and all the amazing memories you have because you’ve travelled.

Heading to the Galapagos Islands is a beautiful sensory overload.

Yes, it does involve cruising, hiking and snorkelling, which are all very common activities. But there is something magical about the Galapagos Islands, something that makes you feel like every dip in the ocean is your first, and every sunset is just as magical and beautiful as the last.

Plus, there are so many other mind-blowing places that you can visit along with the Galapagos Islands, such as the Amazon or Machu Picchu. It truly does become one of those ‘trips of a lifetime’.

You Spend A Lot of Time in Nature

Is there anything better?

Have you ever been for a walk in the park, or along the beach, during a stressful time, and instantly felt so much better? That is because nature is so good for the body and mind. It is impossible to leave this trip without feeling rejuvenated.

During your cruise, you are totally emerged in nature. You wake up every morning with a view of a different island. You fall to sleep with the rock of the ocean waves. Each day involves coming in contact with different terrains and wildlife. It is such a phenomenal feeling.

The onboard Naturalist will teach you about the various eco-systems. You will learn about the habits and rituals of the animals and the history of the Islands.

It is a fully submersive experience.

The Galapagos Islands Wildlife

Our wildlife is among the best in the world. Being a mostly unpopulated region – only 2% of the Galapagos Islands is actually inhabited – the wildlife here do not view humans as predators, but rather as another species.

The Galapagos National Park and other non-profit organisations have created refuges and breeding centres for all types of animals from turtles to hammerhead sharks. As a result, they are relaxed and at home on these islands. It is one of the few places on Earth, where humans and animals peacefully co-exist.

It is because of this union that baby seals will wonder up to you with curiosity, or penguins will swim with you. During snorkels, the underwater life will not swim away from you; they will continue with whatever it is that they are doing. The same can be said for the birds. They won’t fly away as you pass, which makes for some incredible moments and memories.

Our animals are so playful and curious. It’s hard not to love them and feel some sort of happiness or joy when you see them.

It’s a Digital Detox

I realise that this may put some people off, but for a lot of our voyages, there is no cell reception AT ALL, which means that you will not be able to upload your pictures and videos. You won’t be spending your downtime staring at your phone, and sadly, you won’t be able to respond to any work emails.

Instead, we encourage conversations and socialising. Or if you really do want some alone time, then picking up a book is fully endorsed. The whole point of a vacation is that you take time off, and these trips facilitate that.

This constant attachment to the world and influx of information is so bad for our wellbeing. Just two days without your phone and you will feel relaxed and more present. We know that fully stepping away from your responsibilities is difficult, but just think of how good you will feel after.

Plus, this adventure is a once in a lifetime experience. Your presence is required.

The Galapagos Islands is Just One of those Happy Places

What more can I say – the forced digital detox, the love of the animals, the thrill of the adventure and the tranquillity of the environment? It is all designed to boost your happiness. And it was all designed by nature.

The Galapagos Islands have the reputation that they do because they are so enchanting and mesmerising. They are so pure and giving. You will never leave The Galapagos Islands feeling like you need another holiday. Nothing about this trip is stressful.

In fact, we guarantee you’ll want another week here, just for the tranquillity.
